Sworn translation of medical report
A sworn translation of a medical report is a frequent requirement in health, legal, academic and immigration proceedings both in Spain and abroad.

What is a medical report?

When do you need a sworn translation of a medical report?
Sworn translations of medical reports are required in many situations:
- Immigration or visa procedures: many countries require translated medical reports for long-term visa applications, residence or work permits, and family reunification processes.
- Medical treatments or procedures abroad: hospitals and clinics often require sworn translations to assess a patient’s medical history before admission or treatment.
- International medical insurance and claims: insurance providers may request official translations to process reimbursements, compensation claims, or claims related to accidents or illness.
- Judicial or expert proceedings: this includes cases involving disability, medical malpractice, compensation claims, custody matters or labor disputes.
- Studies or training in healthcare-related fields: universities and regulatory bodies may require translated medical reports for accreditation or recognition purposes.
- Use of medical reports issued abroad in Spain: for administrative, employment, academic or health procedures, a sworn translation into Spanish is mandatory.
Apostille and legalization
Depending on the country where the translated medical report will be submitted, the original document may require a Hague Apostille, if the destination country is a party to the Hague Convention, or Consular Legalization, if it is not. The apostille is affixed to the original report or to a certified copy, never to the translation itself. If your report is already apostilled, we can provide a sworn translation of both the report and the apostille. For medical documents, some health institutions require additional certification prior to apostille. We can advise you on the appropriate steps depending on the destination country.
