What is a sworn translation?

A sworn translation is an official translation with legal validity. It must be carried out, stamped and signed by a sworn translator in accordance with the regulations applicable in each country. In Spain, the translator must be authorized by the MAEC. This is the only way to guarantee the validity of the translation before public bodies, universities, courts and notaries.

When do you need a sworn translation?

When a public administration requires documentation in the official language of the country, the main valid method is to provide a sworn translation. If the document is in another language, the body will not accept it and the process will be stalled.

This is the case for most formal procedures: visa or residence applications, nationality procedures, marriage registrations, academic validations, university procedures, legal proceedings, deeds, powers of attorney, contracts or corporate documentation.
